Today is Sunday, September 3, 2023. We have been at sea since we left Trieste Saturday evening and will not dock again until Monday morning, Sept. 4, in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Today was a relatively quiet day for us, just going with the flow of things.
Once again, I was able to attend Mass on board! We have a different priest today from the one we had last Sunday. I really appreciate that Holland America provides this opportunity/convenience. It’s like having the priest come to one’s house to pray the Mass on Sunday! Pretty cool, I’ll say!
We dined in the dining room instead of at the buffet for breakfast. There, we met a couple from California who had also been at Mass. we sat together for breakfast, exchanged contact information, and managed to meet up for a comedy show this evening. Pat and Bob are a really nice couple. And, Aubrey would be interested in knowing that for breakfast, I had banana caramel corn pancakes! Basically, they were banana pancakes, topped with caramel corn, and drizzled with caramel sauce! Believe it or not, they were GOOD!
John read on the Observation Deck while I attended a talk on Legendary Myths, I.e., how mythology influences much of what we do today. I met another couple, and spoke with a third person; but as pleasant as they were, I think they’re probably going to remain at the “transitory conversations” relationship level as frequently occurs. A great way to connect and spend some time. John and I cashed in on a fru-fru coffee package we had purchased in advance. We savored our coffees in a most pleasant place, in air conditioned comfort on a ship deck with panoramic views of a calm Mediterranean Sea!
We attended another “talk”. I had already participated in it and loved it last week, but I knew John would enjoy it, too. This was the Traditionally Modern presentation, I.e., how Neapolitan pizza is regulated to preserve authenticity standards, and so on,….
Afternoon tea in the Dining Room was lovely, finishing just in time for a nice dinner also in the Dining Room! I did have an opportunity to get some steps in to try to offset some of the calories that we’re consuming! I met another nice woman on the Promenade Deck, this one from Maine, which made the walking session more palatable all the way around. The food in the Dining Room is better controlled for quantity, although we could order several items within each category. The portions are not huge. The trick is to get one of every category and stay away from seconds or thirds.
We met Pat and Bob for the evening comedy show and the Q&A session on Dubrovnik. We gather at about 8:15 A.M. for our on-shore excursion.
TTFN~
