19 September -A Downday

September 19, 2024–

DOWN DAY!

Laundry at the nearby laundromat!

While Dad rested and read quietly at the B&B, I walked to Cadoro Grocery Store to find some makeup that had run out and a package of Essi (Ss) Buranei. These are basically butter cookies shaped as an S, and they are supposedly classic for this region!

Dinner was local, within walking distance, known for home made pasta. I had potato gnocchi in high-quality butter and sage.” The gnocchi themselves were AWESOME, as in, melt-in-your-mouth awesome.” The butter was barely detectable and had no strong flavor of its own at all. The sage was also mild and light. For me, the sauce could have used a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor because it seemed a little bland. But the gnocchi themselves? WOW! I’ve got to practice so that I can make them that way, too. Dad had tagliatelle with meat ragou. “They were OK, nothing phenomenal,” he said, “but the good thing is that the pasta actually tastes eggy, as it should”! We walked to a local homemade gelato store (gelateria) for a top-notch cone for dessert!
