19 October 2024–Driving Day from Castelfranco, Modena, Emilia-Romagna, to Sorrento, Naples, Campania: Rain—again—off and on—passed beautiful countryside and different viewpoints of the Aspen nines all the way from north to south. Saw Mt. Vesuvius as we approached Naples. It is hard to believe it has caused so much destruction in the past, is still active, and houses—lots of them—are at the bottom of the mountain! Rain in Sorrento. Our host said it had been a downpour, and they are not prepared because it typically does not rain that way there. But—it turned into an intermittent rain ass the afternoon wore on, rain, dry, drizzle, after we attended Mass and as we walked to a local restaurant. Dinner was Caprese salad (of course, Capri is just across the water in the Adriatic, Gulf of Naples), gnocchi Sorrentino, Lemoncello for Dad that we got free because the waiter forgot to bring us the dessert menu when we asked, pizza bread on the house, and a Lemon deli is that we split. Lemon Delizia is the local dessert in Sorrento, and this was a large ball-type creation with sponge cake covered with an ooey-gooey lemony-sweet thick cream. Lemon is king in Sorrento!
